About the event
AK Theatre has consistently presented shows that honor and promote our traditional art forms. Parai, our second production in the Koothu series following the success of Karagam, aims to offer a glimpse into the rich world of ethnic folk arts, which are symbols of our deeply rooted Tamil culture.
Synopsis: Parai employs musical theatre techniques in the Therukoothu style, capturing the rustic essence of traditional folklore and percussions. The story revolves around the bond between a young boy and his pet cow, depicting their shared moments and the challenges they encounter due to unforeseen events. It reflects the life of farmers, their struggles, and their hand-to-mouth existence. The performance includes folk songs about children’s playtime and sing-along activities. A life-size puppet of a cow makes the narrative engaging and relatable for the audience. Through Mani’s school experiences, the audience will learn how to overcome negative emotions through puppetry and art forms such as Thudumbattam, Jikkaattam, Kai silambaattam, Saatai Kuchi Aatam, and Parai. The stories within the performance not only convey meaningful messages but also provide a rich experience of traditional folklore through these art forms.
