Naan Yaar is our forthcoming digital Musical Theatre production in Tamil language, providing an enriching experience in traditional artforms of Devarattam and Oyilattam.
About the Play
The play opens with two travellers who are seen sitting on the beach and discussing about the ocean and its mystery. A fisherman passing by asks them to join him in his sea journey. The three of them venture on the journey enjoying the sea until suddenly they face some rough weather in the middle of the sea. Exhausted and worried, they finally see a Mermaid who invites them to the underwater world to rest and recover.
Surprised and curious, they agree to go with her to the underwater world, where they witness the graceful Oyilattam dance performed by the mermaids. During this celebration, they notice that the king’s chair is empty. On enquiring, they learn that the king has been imprisoned and kept locked in the underwater volcano guarded by the 5-headed Dragon. The king has to be saved and the kingdom has to be regained. And it is not easy. The travellers offer to save the king from the dragon, but the twist is that they need to solve 5 mysteries put forth by the dragon. Will they solve the riddles and save the king? Will they reach the land safely? This forms the end of the story, also featuring the divine Devarattam dance, which makes a fascinating watch, as the name befits.
Our main objective through our productions is to create awareness of our age-old traditional artforms to the present-day children and make them appreciate its values. The story is scripted in such a way that fantasy is clubbed with suspense, mystery, and traditional arts. The combination of these elements makes it an enjoyable watch for the children. In presenting a story, our theatre production makes sure that the students experience the familiarity and splendour of our language, while they also get enthralled by the art forms that we have incorporated in the play.
