AKT Festival 2022

Storython

Initiated in 2016, AKT Festival is our annual international storytelling event where we bring traditional art form closer to the public through theatre and themed stories. Stories from local and international storytellers reach the audience in 4 different languages of Mandarin, Malay, English and Tamil.

About the Festival

This first-of-its-kind concept called Storython or non-stop multi-lingual storytelling was first introduced in Singapore by AK Theatre in 2016. We are now successfully marching into our 6th year and are happy to state that it has been well received by the audience worldwide.

AKT Festival 2022 will stretch bigger in the digital space to celebrate stories of folktales across the world that have been passed on from ancestors through word of mouth. Children will benefit greatly listening to these and getting to know the culture of the times and the relevance behind the stories.

Storytelling is a powerful means of communicating messages and sharing experiences by keeping the child engaged and thinking. It also helps in language growth and oral fluency of the young children by providing a renewed experience. Living in a multi-ethnic culture, we aim to build a collective and enriching experience for people all around the world.

Our objective is also to make children realise and appreciate their heritage and to not forget their roots. Our storytelling festival will have folktales from different culture narrated in 4 different languages connecting them to the rich cultural past of their forefathers.

All the stories for the AKT Festival 2022 event will be based on folk tales from different cultures. We will be integrating Villu Paatu (Bow song), an ancient form of musical story-telling into the story narration.
